First Try: Magazine Front Cover and Contents

The first cover I designed looked alright however I soon realised that the font used for the masthead was not suitable for this day and age; it looked too old fashioned so I had to change it. Furthermore, the backdrop of the masthead looked too cheesy. I liked the blue colour scheme because it matches the colour of the actual sixth form.
As for the contents page, I forgot to include the issue date and I found that there was too much blue which did not compliment the font or the layout so I decided to change that. Furthermore, the italicised 'CONTENTS' does not look as appealing as I originally hoped so I decided to alter that also. As for the pictures themselves,  I think I will revert back to their original colour.
(Blogspot would not allow the normal colourway of the image to show up. The background is white, the images are tinted blue and the font alternates from navy blue and sky blue - sky blue highlighting the sell lines on the front cover)

School Magazine Front Cover and Contents Analysis

School Magazine Plan

  •  The target audience for my magazine will be the male and female sixth formers (year 12-13) of St Angela & St Bonaventure’s 6th form who are aged 17-18.
  • The name of my magazine will be EQUIP! - I chose this to be the name of my magazine because the main aspect of 6th form I wanted to revolve my magazine around was proper equipment and organisation.
  • I’d like the target audience to feel like they can relate to the magazine which is why I’d like a female and male sixth former to be the focus of the front cover.
  •  As for their positions, I’d like for the two models to be standing back to back while facing the camera, the shot will be a shoulder shot and I’d like for them to raise a hand holding stationary (pen, pencil, highlighter, ruler etc.) – this would correlate with the name of the magazine because they will have equipment in their hand that is a necessity for success in 6th form.
  • The mise en scene required for the shot is full uniform (lanyards included as it will be a shoulder shot) As for the background, I’d like to keep it as a simple white background so that the models remain the main focus of the front cover
  • The sell lines will be: 10 STATIONARY STAPLES, a quote from an exceptionally excellent student on how important equipment is, Aspirations, WATER: A student's best friend (a small button with an image of a water bottle underneath it) Fail to prepare; prepare to fail will be the headline, a book recommendation for this issue, 20 YEARS of SUCCESS, EXCLUSIVE: quote by yr. 13 who has to resit
  • The double page spread will be on 10 stationary staples and an interview from a very organised student on why equipment is so important. There will be a page about water and how re-energising it is, a story about someone who has to re-sit a subject, a few adverts of discounts and sales for equipment, a page on what you should bring for each particular subject, an aspirations page, a book recommendation/review, a page on aspirations - student body, a page on what career suits your skill if you don't know what you want to be yet and a page called 'Let's Appreciate:" Where every month a different subject features in it to show what they have achieved.

Magazine Contents Analysis

Magazine Analysis: Cosmopolitan September 2013 American Issue

Introduction

My name is Celina Laureta and I am seventeen years old. I have been interested in media ever since I was a child.

I never limited myself when it came to watching TV; I used to explore different TV channels to see what would appeal to me - this ranged from documentary programs such as animal documentaries like Animal Cops (all the featuring states e.g. Houston, Phoenix, Detroit etc) and historical or informative documentaries, to crime dramas that engage the viewer like: CSI (all of them), Criminal Minds, Law & Order, Lie to Me, White Collar as well as medical dramas such as House and Grey's Anatomy. I'm also into anime which are Japanese cartoons that often have a more intriguing plot that western cartoons but I do watch western cartoons, and comedies such as The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, That's So Raven, Lizzie Macguire, Scrubs, New Girl, My Wife and Kids, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and many more. I also really liked the Skins series and fantasy dramas such as The Vampire Diaries, Grimm, H2O, Secret Circle (I was so sad to hear that it was cancelled :c ) and True Blood.

I absolutely love horror films.

Words cannot express the emotions I feel when watching horror films. The excitement, apprehension, tension and suspense are all key for my enjoyment. I like intense and complex plots and the fact that in horror movies you can explore the supernatural which is a genre that is essentially limitless. I also like romantic comedies/dramas such as PS I Love You, Love and Other Drugs, 500 Days of Summer, 10  Things I Hate About You and many many more. I also enjoy watching Quentin Tarantino's films such as Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained.

I quite like watching the news too.
